NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- La Salle volleyball freshman
Jensen Sharrits has been named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Explorers to a second place finish in the Tribe Invitational to open up the 2015 schedule.
The Concord Township, Ohio native is the first player to earn the award in the La Salle volleyball program history. She recorded 59 digs over the three games including 24 digs in a three set win over Gardner-Webb on her way to All-Tournament honors. She also recorded 16 digs and four service aces in a five set win over Norfolk State in her first collegiate game.
"Jensen had an incredible first weekend in the blue and gold," said head coach
Caitlin Rimgaila. "She was extremely solid in serve receive and had a great court presence for a freshman. Our opponents struggled hitting around her and she frustrated a lot of attackers with her defense."
La Salle hosts Lafayette in its home opener Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to New Orleans for the New Orleans Invitational this weekend.
