DAVIDSON, N.C. - La Salle dropped its Atlantic 10 Conference opener on Friday afternoon to Davidson, 2-1, in an evenly played contest at Belk Field. Sophomore
Eileen Dzwill scored the Explorers' lone goal.
The Wildcats (3-3, 1-0 A-10) got on the board first in the 21st minute when Anna Davis found the back of the cage for her third goal of the season. The 1-0 advantage held throughout the first half but the hosts added an insurance goal in the 48th minute from Paige Albert.
Dzwill scored on a penalty stroke with 18 minutes to play and the Explorers (2-4, 0-1 A-10) had a flurry of shots and corners in the minutes thereafter but were unable to find the back of the cage.
Davidson held an 11-10 lead in shots but La Salle posted an 8-6 advantage in corners, including 6-2 in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper
Rachel Hartman made three saves for La Salle, while Emily Leytham had five saves for the Wildcats.
The Blue and Gold remains in North Carolina to take on Appalachian State on Sunday at 11 AM.Â
