BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State's Caroline Phillips scored her second goal of the game with nine minutes remaining to lift the host Mountaineers over La Salle, 2-1, on Sunday. Junior Abbey Lawrence scored the Explorers' only goal, while classmate Rachel Hartman had five saves in goal. La Salle has now had its past six games decided by one goal.

Lawrence gave the Explorers an early lead off a penalty corner after taking a pass from senior Jenica Miller in the 6th minute. The lead held until the 22nd minute when Phillips found the back of the cage, also off a penalty corner, for her fifth goal of the season.

The two teams remained knotted at 1-1 until the 62nd minute when Phillips took a cross and scored her second goal of the contest.

La Salle (2-5) had five shots and two corners in the final minutes but couldn't tie the game up.

The Explorers held a 16-12 advantage on shots and a 12-7 lead on corners.

ASU's Cristina Ceppi had six saves. The Mountaineers improve to 2-6 on the season. 

The Blue and Gold return home for two A-10 games next weekend versus Lock Haven on Friday and Saint Louis on Sunday.
