Volleyball Stumbles on Day Two of Big 5 Tourney


PHILADELPHIA- La Salle volleyball dropped a pair of 3-0 matches to close out the Big 5 Tournament on Saturday at McGonigle Hall. The Explorers fell 19-25, 15-25, 16-25 to Villanova and 17-25, 17-25, 19-25 to Penn. Sophomore Bryanna Davis finished the day with a team-high 19 kills hitting .292 on the day to lead the La Salle offensive effort.
 
Junior Ashley Felton and freshman Madison Kuch each tied for the team lead with seven kills against Villanova in the first game of the double header. Felton hit .312 in the match. Freshman Madison Hite finished with 20 assists.
 
Nova led from start to finish in all three sets and was able to utilize an efficient offense hitting .378 on the match on their way to a 3-0 win. Hite added five hills in the match while Davis lead the team with seven digs in the match.
 
The second game of the day saw the Explorers put up a fight but come up short against Penn. In the first set La Salle was able to hit .300, led by Davis who had four kills, but it could not hold up against Penn who hit .552 in the set. La Salle cooled in the second and third set but Penn kept up the efficient hitting as they finished the match with a .373 hitting percentage as a team.
 
Davis led the Explorers with 13 kills on the match hitting .320. Sophomore Rachel Carr added five kills hitting .300 on just 10 swings. Hite added 28 assists while Kuch led the way with seven digs.
 
Both Davis and Kuch added two service aces in the effort.
 
La Salle returns to action on action on Tuesday as they head to Baltimore to take on UMBC before returning to Tom Gola Arena as they open up Atlantic 10 play against Saint Louis and Dayton.
