ST.LOUIS, MO- The La Salle field hockey team faced St. Louis on Friday afternoon for an Atlantic 10 matchup. With the 3-2 win, the Explorers improved their record to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Explorers surpassed their 3-5 conference record from the 2015 season with the win over the Billikens.
St. Louis opened scoring up in the first half, nabbing a goal at 8:56 to put the Billikens up by one. La Salle put in 13 shots on goal but was unable to answer until 31:31 into play.
Summer Pierson earned her first assist of the season when she sent the ball towards
Mackenzie Karcher, who put it into the Billiken's cage. Karcher posted her first goal of the season for the Explorers to even the score at 1-1.
La Salle quickly grabbed a second goal just under ten minutes into the second half of play. Â
Devin Muracco sent a long pass down the left wing of the field to
Logan Oh, who dribbled the ball into the circle and shot to earn her third goal of the season. The Billikens answered at two minutes left in regulation with a goal from Molly Feid to tie the game at 2-2 and send the teams into overtime.
The Explorers ended the game at one minute into overtime with a goal from
Abbey Lawrence, assisted by
Sophie Lozowski and
Megan Kida. Lawrence earned her fourth goal of the season, while Lozowski posted her sixth assist.
Goalkeeper
Rachel Hartman tallied two saves for the Explorers and La Salle outshot the Billikens 22-8.
The Explorers return to the turf on Sunday, when the team faces Ball State away for a nonconference matchup at 1:00 PM.
