DOVER, DE- The La Salle volleyball team downed Delaware State on Tuesday in a non-conference match to build on the team's success from Sunday. The Explorers topped the Hornets in three sets, with scores of 25-19, 25-9, 25-22. La Salle is now 10-13 on the season overall.
The Explorers averaged a .276 hitting percentage, with
Bryanna Davis leading the way offensively. Davis recorded her first double-double of the season, with 11 kills and 10 digs for La Salle. Jenny Edwards followed with nine digs for the Blue and Gold.
Davis,
Jensen Sharrits and
Maddie Macht recorded two aces apiece for the Explorer's victory over the Hornets. The Explorers recorded seven aces overall, compared to the Hornet's two.
"We came out a bit slow, but were able to gain momentum throughout the match, although we didn't play our best volleyball tonight," said head coach
Caitlin Schweihofer. "Anytime we have the opportunity to compete helps us gain experience and further develop our skills."
Maya Barton recorded a career high four blocks against the Hornets, with freshmen Edwards and
Catherine Edgington following up with three each. Edgington stepped up in the middle to help the Explorers with six kills and a .455 attack percentage, demonstrating her versatilty on the court.
"Edgington gave a solid offensive and defensive performance in the middle, which allowed us to pull ahead in all three sets," said Schweihofer. "We also continued to serve the ball aggressively; therefore, Delaware State was out of system for most of the match."
The Explorers will return to the court this weekend, when the team travels to Dayton to compete against the Flyers at 7:00 PM on Friday, Oct. 21. La Salle will then take on Saint Louis at 1:00 PM on Sunday, Oct. 23 in Saint Louis.
