PHILADELPHIA - Former La Salle men's basketball standout Ramon Galloway has been signed by the NBA's Orlando Magic, the team announced on Friday. The two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection and an integral part of the Explorers Sweet 16 run in 2013 joins the Magic five days before the team is scheduled to open the 2016-17 regular season against the Miami Heat.
Galloway joins Explorer great Rasual Butler (1998-02) as current active members of the NBA. Butler is in his 14th season overall and is currently playing with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Galloway was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 player as a senior in 2013 while also earning Big 5 and USBWA honors. The Philadelphia native led the team in scoring that season, averaging 17.2 points per game while dishing out a team-high 127 assists. Galloway averaged 18.8 points a contest over four games in the NCAA Tournament, including a game-high 24 points in the NCAA Third Round victory over Ole Miss.
Most recently, the 6-3 guard played for the Charlotte Hornets during its appearance in the 2016 Orlando Pro Summer League. Galloway averaged 9.0 points and 2.7 rebounds over three contests while shooting nearly 48 percent from the field. Galloway has also been a member of the Chicago Bulls summer league squad in 2015 and the Denver Nuggets summer league team in 2014.
During the winter of 2015-16, Galloway played for both OpenJobMetis Varese in Italy's top league and Fulgor Omenga of the second league, averaging 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He played for Orsi Derthona Basket Tortona in Italy during the 2014-15 season, leading the team in scoring (14.9 points per game) in 30 games. He also spent time playing in Bosnia and Germany during the 2013-14 season.
