PITTSBURGH – The La Salle women's soccer team lost a double overtime heartbreaker 2-1 to the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday in the 2016 season finale.
Duquesne senior Cydney Staton scored twice, including the game-winner with four seconds remaining in the second overtime to clinch the win for the Dukes.
The Dukes took a 1-0 lead on Staton's first goal in the 51
st minute, but La Salle's
Maci Bower tied the game in the 86
th minute to force overtime. Bower headed the game-tying goal off a
Danielle Marx corner kick for her fifth goal of the year.
La Salle outshot the Dukes 22-13 overall, and 13-4 in shots on goal.
Both teams went scoreless in the first half before Staton inputted her first goal of the season past the goal keeper to give her team a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half (50:54).
