La Salle Drops Non-Conference Game Against Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team made the short trip to SJU on Friday afternoon for a non-conference game. The Explorers were topped by the Hawks in a 6-2 contest.

The Hawks opened up scoring in the first half with two back-to-back goals from Kerri Turk and Joley Helder. St. Joe's grabbed the early lead at 6:29 into play to control the game.

The Explorers quickly responded to the Hawk's aggressive start with a goal at 11:11 from Kendall Kreider, her fifth of the season. Sophie Lozowski provided the assist after a penalty corner in the Hawk's circle. Kreider leads the Explorers in goals this season at forward.

SJU sent the ball into the cage for a third goad at 27:23 with another shot from Kerri Turk. La Salle trailed St. Joe's at the half 3-1.
The Hawks grabbed a fourth goal against La Salle early in the second half to set pace for the rest of play. Jackalyn Pauling dribbled into the circle and fought past Explorer goalie Rachel Hartman to put the ball into the cage.

Helder put in a second goal against the Explorers to bring the score to a 5-1 contest. The Hawks overthrew the Explorers' defense again to put a goal in the cage midway through the second half.

With a pass from Kreider, Devin Muracco scored a goal for La Salle at 60:57 in the second half. Muracco tallied her third goal of the season and Kreider recorded her first assist.

Katie O'Grady recorded her first defensive save of the season and La Salle's second overall in 2016. Kreider recorded five shots, while Muracco recorded two. Hartman tallied seven saves for the Explorer effort.

La Salle will return to the turf on Friday, Oct. 14 when the team travels to St. Louis to take on Ball State at 3:00 PM.
