WILMINGTON, N.C. –
Jasmine Alston recorded her second career triple-double with 15 points, 18 rebounds and 12 assists as the La Salle women's basketball team defeated Miami (OH) 79-70 in the opening game of the UNC Wilmington Thanksgiving Classic at Trask Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The 18 rebounds were also a career-high for Alston, who recorded just the fourth triple-double in Division I college basketball this season. The senior recorded her first triple-double last season against Penn with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Amy Griffin had a game-high 23 points, including 15 after the break, as the Explorers used a second-half surge to earn the victory. La Salle used a 22-2 run that spanned most of the 3
rd quarter to turn a 33-32 deficit into a 54-35 advantage.
A three-pointer by
Anemone Scheel capped the run and put the Blue and Gold up by 19 with 3:48 to go in the 3
rd quarter. The freshman had nine of her season-high 11 points in the second half, and finished 4-for-6 from the field and hit all three attempts from beyond the arc.
Although the RedHawks cut into the lead during the 4
th quarter, the Explorers kept at least a three-possession lead for the duration. La Salle was a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line over the final 1:22, and hit 18-of-20 attempts in the game.
Adreana Miller, who was 4-for-4 from the foul line, also had a season-high 16 points to go with four rebounds.
The Explorers will take on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
