PHILADELPHIA-The La Salle women's lacrosse team opened its 2016 season with a 13-2 loss at Temple on Wednesday afternoon. Senior
Katelyn Fay tallied both goals for the Explorers on the afternoon.
The Owls (1-1) high octane offense was too much for the Explorers (0-2) to handle as the hosts finished with 32 shots on the afternoon. Temple jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Fay got the Explorers on the board with 24:09 remaining in the second half. She double her total with the final goal of the contest with 1:07 left on the clock off a free position shot.
"With the graduation of seven seniors last season we unfortunately have a lineup with a lot of inexperience and it clearly showed in all aspects of the game," added head coach
Candace Taglianetti Bossell. "We went against a team with 12 seniors and they capitalized on our errors."
Sophomore goalie
Lucy Loughlin finished with six saves in her first collegiate start. The Explorers defense was able to force 18 Temple turnovers on the evening with senior
Allie Burnett sophomore
Rachel Ceplo, and freshman
Ashley Blanton all caused one turnover on the day.Sophomore
Hailey Leister finished tied for a game-high with three ground balls on the day.
"Although are inexperienced, we are confident that we have the talent, so our goal will be remain to improve every game," said Bossell. "Gaining the experience will benefit us going into the upcoming games."
The Explorers return to action on Tuesday when they head to Delaware for a 6 p.m. draw against the Blue Hens.
