Six Men Reach Thursday Finals During Morning Prelims

GENEVA, OHIO- The La Salle men's swimming and diving team placed six men in finals after swimming three preliminaries during the morning session of Day 2 of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Spire Institute.
 
Four men reached the finals in the 200 yard individual medley led by junior Jerry Gravel who placed third in the prelims with a time of 1:49.73. Senior Johan Roth was close behind with the fourth fastest prelim time of 1:50.43 as he will join Gravel in the finals of the event.
 
Sophomore Fabian Bergman and junior Cameron Fadley both reached the consolation finals as they finished with the ninth and tenth best times respectively out of 33 swimmers in the prelims. Bergman swam a 1:51.50, just .09 seconds off a spot in the top eight, while Fadley was close behind in 1:51.65. Sophomore Dimitrije Mladenovic finished in 26th place in the prelims with a time of 1:54.73.
 
Junior Mattias Glenesk reached the final in the 500 yard freestlye thanks to a preliminary time of 4:31.09 on Thursday morning which was the seventh fastest of the 35 swimmers in the event. Senior Justin Hughes narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals as he touched in 20th with a time of 4:38.16, just 1.75 seconds out of 16th place. Freshman Jeffery Pfannenstein (4:41.06, 28th place) and sophomore Robert Wilson (4:54.13, 33rd place) also swam in the event for the Explorers.
 
Junior Strahinja Stankovic reached the consolation finals thanks to a preliminary time of 20.95 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle on Thursday morning. Stankovic was just .18 seconds out of eighth place in the tightly contested field. Sophomore Jakub Bartowiewicz tied for 21st place with a 21.13 second time. Senior Jonathan Cabral (21.15, 24th place), freshman Josh Williams (21.52, 32nd place), senior Cameron Edling (21.96, 41st place), freshman Alexander Holland (22.91, 46th place), and freshman Yashua Lockhart-Derry (23.69, 48th place) also swam in the event.
 
The finals of the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard individual medley, 50 yard freestyle as well as the 200 yard freestyle relay all will take place on the Thursday evening finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. Video and live stat links are available are available via the Championship Central.
