GENEVA, OHIO- Sophomore Emma Smith qualified for the finals in the 500 yard freestyle during the morning primaries of day two of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Spire Institute.
 
Smith swam the third fastest time of the primaries thanks to a 4:52.28 out of the field of 43 in the event. Smith was just 2.63 seconds off the lead time in the event.
 
Junior Eva Marie Oesterhus (5:03.96, 27^th place), senior Hayley Miles (5:12.26, 35^th place), and freshmen Siobhan McDonough (5:12.98, 37^th place) and Shannon Battis (5:17.66, 42^nd place) also swam in the event.
 
Freshman Olivia DiStefano was the top performer in the 50 yard freestyle prelims for the Explorers. DiStefano swam a time of 23.86 for 18^th place which was just .05 seconds out of a spot in the consolation finals and .23 seconds out of the top eight in the event.  Junior Kate Hay (23.93, t-23^rd), junior Tanawan Sukonthapanich (24.29, 34^th), sophomores Natalie Simunek (24.91, 53^rd), and Rory Kearns (25.02, 59^th) and junior Julia Mann (25.99, 65^th) also swam in the event.
 
A trio of Explorers swam in the 200 yard individual medley prelims on Thursday morning. Sophomore Maddy Koelsch touched in 27^th place with a time of 2:08.66 for the top La Salle time in the event. Sophomore Hannah Elliott (2:11.48, 44^th) and freshman Mary Harrington (2:12.61, 48^th place) also swam for the Explorers.
 
Smith will race in the 500 yard freestyle finals during the evening session on Thursday beginning at 6:30 and the 200 yard freestyle relay and the one meter diving events will also take place. Video and live stat links are available are available via the Championship Central.
