PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's golf team opens its spring season on Monday and Tuesday at the inaugural Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship at Weston Hills Country Club in Florida. The Explorers are coming off a strong fall season, boasting their highest GolfStat ranking and look to continue to play well this spring.
Junior
P.J. Acierno and graduate student
Tonny Aizpun lead the way, as both Explorers had impressive stroke averages in the fall. Acierno (73.5 strokes/round) set the school record with a 65 at Rutgers, an event he won with another school record, a six-under 207 for 54 holes. Aizpun was an all-conference performer last spring at A-10s, averaging 74.5 strokes per round and posted two top five finishes.
Freshman
Andrew Reynolds was third on the team in scoring at 75.4 strokes/round and had one top five finish. Another freshman
Nick Geiman appeared in all 12 rounds and had a 76.3 stroke average, including a low-round of 69.
Junior
Joe Markmann (76.8),
Nick Gruber (77.0) and
Brandon Raihl (81.3) all saw action in the fall for the Explorers.
T.J. Osborne did not appear in any rounds in the fall but has shown great improvement in the Markmann Indoor Golf Facility.
The Explorers have a challenging schedule following the A-10 Match Play, heading to the Cape Fear Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State. La Salle will return to local competition at the Villanova and Lafayette Invitationals, before hosting the annual Finegan Invitational at Philadelphia Country Club this season.
The A-10 Championship at the Harmony Preserve outside Orlando will wrap up the spring.
