GREENVILLE, S.C. - La Salle dropped both games of a doubleheader today to Virginia, 6-3, and Furman, 12-0, at the Spartan Classic.
Virginia 6, La Salle 3The Explorers led the Cavaliers, out of the ACC, 3-2 after two innings but UVa. scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to score the come-from-behind victory. Junior
Suzanne Swanicke had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the Blue and Gold. Sophomore
Bridgett Magee also had a pair of hits, including a double, for La Salle.
In the first, La Salle tied the score at 1-1 when a Swanicke single plated junior
Michelle Hagarty, who was hit by a pitch. Virginia (5-8) plated a run in the top of the second, but the Explorers answered back with two in the bottom of the frame.
Senior
Erica Reis singled, junior
Kristin Martin walked and Magee singled to load the bases. A fielder's choice by
Angelina Refice drove in Reis and and Hagarty followed with a sacrifice fly to give La Salle a 3-2 lead.
Freshman
Marlo Roadcap started, going 2.2 innings and allowing three runs, while striking out two. Senior
Mary Cate Scott (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up two earned runs in 4.1 innings. She fanned four.
Furman 12, La Salle 0 (5 innings)Furman (7-8) scored in every inning to hand La Salle a 12-0 loss in the nightcap. The Explorers were held without a hit in the game.
Sophomore
McKenzie Peace (0-2) suffered the loss for the Blue and Gold.
La Salle (0-4) returns to action next weekend at the UCF Spring Fling in Orlando, Fla.
