ELON, N.C. – The La Salle baseball team fell 10-3 to the Elon Phoenix on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Latham Park.
The Explorers got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2
nd inning thanks to an Elon throwing error that allowed
Jared Melone to score on a
Brett Simon grounder. The Phoenix, however, took a 2-1 lead in the home half of the 2
nd to spark eight unanswered runs to take an 8-1 lead by the 4
th inning.
Elon scored five runs in the 4
th inning against reliever
Jared Mattera on four hits and a walk. Mattera started the inning in relief of Jorge Jiminez (L, 0-2), who allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings.
Freshman
Drew Jarmuz had an RBI single in the 6
th and
Joey Ravert had an RBI double in the 7
th but the Explorers weren't able to close the gap.
Mason Daniels earned the win for Elon, going five innings while yielding just one hit and one walk. The only run the righty allowed was unearned.
The Explorers head south again next weekend as they visit the Prebyterian Blue Hose for a three-game series in Clinton, South Carolina beginning on Friday.
