LYNCHBURG, Va. - The La Salle softball team concluded play in the Liberty Invitational on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to Sacred Heart. Junior Christina Bascara had a pair of hits to pace the Explorers.

Sacred Heart (6-11) did not have a hit through three innings but got on the board in the fourth with two runs. La Salle (4-10) answered with a run in the fifth, when sophomore Angelina Refice singled and junior Michelle Hagarty walked. After an out, Bascara singled to load the bases. Refice then scored on a wild pitch but the Explorers couldn't push any more runs across and trailed 2-1.

The Pioneers added a two-out run in the fifth to make it 3-1 and La Salle went in order in the sixth and seventh to complete the contest.

Freshman Marlo Roadcap allowed only two earned runs in 4.2 innings while striking out four, but took the loss. Senior Mary Cate Scott recorded the final four outs without allowing a baserunner. 

The Explorers' schedule keeps moving north, as next weekend La Salle will compete at the UMBC Spring Classic. The first two games of the tournament are against Sacred Heart once again. First pitch on Friday is at 2:45 PM.
