Mackenzie Obert each blasted two-run homers to lead La Salle to a 6-4 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon at the UMBC Spring Classic. Sophomore
McKenzie Peace threw four scoreless innings for the victory.
Six different Explorers had one hit apiece for six total hits, and three went for extra bases. In addition to the two homers, freshman
Emma Schweigert had a double.
The Blue and Gold got on the board with two runs in the first. After an Obert walk, junior
Christina Bascara was hit by a pitch and sophomore
Valerie Pineiro singled to load the bases. Junior
Suzanne Swanicke followed with an RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error by the centerfielder.
In the second, Hagarty hit her second home run of the season, and 11thof her career. The two-run blast made it 4-0, Explorers.
The lead reached 6-0 in the fourth. Hagarty worked a one-out walk and Obert followed with her first homer of the season.
Peace improved to 2-5 this spring with her outstanding effort in the circle. She scattered two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two. No runner advanced past second base.
The Pioneers (6-13) scored four runs in the fifth but La Salle (5-10) was able to pick up the victory.
The two teams will meet for the third straight game on Saturday at 10:30 AM before the Explorers face host UMBC at 2:45 PM.
