PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team earned a 3-1 win over Big 5 rival Villanova at Hank DeVincent Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Explorers got the offense going early in support of La Salle righty
Mike Anthony (W, 1-1), scoring twice over the first two innings. Anthony allowed one run over six innings, holding the Wildcats to four hits while striking out three.
Joey Ravert tripled with two outs in the 1st before
Ethan Springston and
Chase Arnold walked to load the bases. Ravert scored after Villanova starter Jon Rosero (L, 2-1) balked, giving La Salle a 1-0 lead.
Brian Tagoe walked with one out in the 2nd before moving all the way to third with a pair of steals and scoring on a
Yan Carlo Rivera groundout. After Villanova got a run back in the top of the 4th, Rivera drilled his first career homer in the bottom of the inning to again make it a two-run game.
Billy Worswick worked a scoreless 7th before
Tom Fazzini (S, 2) hung two scoreless frames to close the game.
The Explorers host Canisius on Friday to kick off the Big 5 Baseball Bash. First pitch from Hank DeVincent Field is set for 3 p.m.
