ORLANDO- The La Salle softball team took the final game of the UCF Tournament, 4-2, over South Dakota on Sunday morning at UCF Softball Complex. 
The game was a pitcher's duel, as both teams combined for only ten hits on the afternoon. Senior 
Mary Cate Scott picked up the win, throwing 2.1 innings in relief allowing only one run. Freshman 
Marlo Roadcap made the start, going 4.2 innings and allowing only two hits and one run while striking out six batters. 
Junior 
Christina Bascara went 2-4 on the afternoon while scoring a run and knocking in a RBI of her own. 
La Salle jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman 
Emma Schweigert came up with the bases loaded and walked in junior 
Mackenzie Obert who had started the rally off with a walk of her own. 
The Cayotes evened things up at 1-1 in the fifth inning but La Salle would answer right back with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the fifth. 
Bascara singled to center to bring home senior 
Kendra Heyer who had reached after being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Sophomore 
Valerie Pineiro brought home Obert on a fielder's choice. The final run of the inning was scored when senior 
Erica Reis came up with the bases loaded and two outs and drew a walk to bring home Bascara and make it a 4-1 Explorers lead. 
South Dakota were able to threaten in the seventh, scoring one run and cutting the lead to 4-2, but Scott struck out the tying run to end the game and give the Explorers the win. 
Bascara had two of the four Explorer hits of the day with junior 
Michelle Hagarty and sophomore 
Bridgett Magee adding the other two. The offense drew eight walks on the day with Obert and junior 
Suzanne Swanicke drawing two apiece. 
The Explorers return to action next weekend as they will play in the Liberty Classic in Lynchburg Virginia. La Salle will play six games against Norfolk State, Rhode Island, Sacred Heart and a pair against Liberty.
