Career-High Six Goals for Fay Fuels Explorers in 14-4 Win


PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle women grabbed a 14-4 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon behind a career-high six goals from senior Katelyn Fay.
 
Fay had four first half goals to help the Explorers jump out to a 10-2 lead at the break and they never looked back. Sophomore Brittany Edwards added four of her own to help power the offense.
 
Freshman Sarah Gallagher started in goal for the second straight game and recorded 12 saves to improve to 2-0 in her career. The freshman had a .750 save percentage in the contest.
 
"I am really proud of our team effort today," added head coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell. "We did a good job of executing on the game plan and while I think we have a lot to continue to improve upon, we saw a lot of growth on the field."
 
La Salle (4-6, 2-1 A-10) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. After Fay opened the scoring the Bonnies evened things up just over a minute later. From there the Explorers would go on an 8-0 run to pull away for good.
 
The 8-0 was over a 19:21 period in the half and saw Fay score a trio of goals, junior Allee Ilgenfritz and Edwards add a pair each and redshirt-sophomore Nicole Black score one to give La Salle a 9-1 lead.
 
St. Bonaventure would score but Edwards responded with just 38 seconds left in the half to give the Explorers the 10-2 halftime lead.
 
Fay scored a pair of goals in the second half with Edwards and junior Anna Gordon rounding off the scoring.
 
Black lead the team with two assists while Edwards, seniors Katie Fonte and Anna Kelly and junior Courtney Woolford adding one assist each.
 
The Explorers forced 14 Bonnies turnovers with 11 coming off caused turn overs for La Salle. Senior Allie Burnett led the team with three caused turnovers on the day.
 
La Salle returns to action on Sunday as they welcome cross-town rivals Saint Joseph's to McCarthy Stadium with first draw slated for 11 a.m.
