Explorers Drop Finale at George Mason, 9-7

FAIRFAX, Va. – The La Salle baseball team couldn't overcome an early offensive output from George Mason in a 9-7 loss to the Patriots in the series finale at Spuhler Field on Sunday.

Drew Jarmuz went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and Connor Hinchliffe had three RBI for the Explorers. Yan Carlo Rivera doubled in a run in the 8th inning to make it a two-run game but La Salle couldn't get any closer.

La Salle used a four-run 3rd inning to get back in the game after the Patriots scored seven times over the first two frames to jump out to a 7-2 lead. A Hinchliffe grounder brought in two runs in the 1st, and the freshman had a sac fly in the 3rd.

Jarmuz doubled in a run later in the inning, Joey Ravert scored on an error and Ben Faso singled in a run to cap the four-run 3rd.

Jorge Jimenez made the start for La Salle but allowed the first five baserunners to reach without getting an out before the Explorers went to the bullpen. Ryan Wanner came in for Jimenez, and wiggled out of a bases loaded jam with no outs using a strike out and a double play.

Wanner (L, 1-1) allowed three runs in the 2nd inning and was saddled with the loss. The righty loaded the bases with one out in the 2nd before turning the ball over to Michael Flax.

Reliever Tyler Kardas (W, 3-1) pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball out of the pen to earn the win for the Patriots. Zach Mort (S, 7) recorded the final three outs to earn the save, pitching around a two-out Jarmuz single.
