PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Rhode Island Rams on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field to conclude the regular season. Rhody took the first game 7-5 and the second game 7-1.
GAME ONE
The Rams scored four runs in the top of the 8
th inning against
CJ Pruitt (L, 2-1) to erase a 4-3 La Salle lead and jump in front 7-4. The Explorers got a run back in the 8
th but couldn't close the two-run gap in the 9
th.
Kevin McGowan and
Drew Jarmuz both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while
Joey Ravert and
Ben Faso each had RBI.
Ravert had a sacrifice fly in the 7
th to score
Yan Carlo Rivera and put the Blue and Gold in front 4-3. After the Rams took the 7-4 lead in the 8
th, Faso had an RBI single in the 8
th. La Salle went down in order in the 9
th against Tyler Barss (S, 12).
The Rams got out to a 3-0 lead before the Explorers tied the game with a three spot in the 3
rd thanks to RBI singles from McGowan and Jarmuz. Ravert scored the tying run on the URI catcher's throw to second in an attempt to catch Jarmuz stealing second.
GAME TWO
McGowan had another two hits in game two but the Explorers couldn't get the offense going against Ben Wessel (W, 5-4), who limited La Salle to one run in 7.1 innings pitched.
URI scored in the 1
st inning against
Greg Paprocki (L, 1-2) and led 4-0 before La Salle got on the board in the 7
th on a
Joey Ravert sac fly. The Rams answered with three more runs in the 8
th inning to put the game out of reach.
