PHILADELPHIA – La Salle junior
Fabian Bergman and incoming freshman Marcus Forsgren are set to swim at Swedish Nationals, which began on July 6 in Norkopping.
"It is exciting to have athletes competing all around the world," head coach
Jamie Platt said. "For Fabian and Marcus to be competing at such a high level at their national championships helps to prepare themselves for future successes. We are well represented this summer on the international scene."
Bergman will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke while Forsgren will have a full plate of events, including the 50 and 100 freestyle, the 50 and 100 butterfly, the 50 and 100 breaststroke, the 50 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Both Explorers will swim in the relay events as well.
"Staying in training after A-10s and competing like this during the summer is a good way to stay in shape between seasons at La Salle," Bergmann said. "Swimming this meet keeps me surrounded by Olympic swimmers and that gives me perspective and motivation at the same time. It's always fun to fight for medals at national championships."
Bergman was named to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 who reached the finals in three events at the A-10 Championships. Forsgren is expected to be a contributor in the freestyle, IM and breaststroke events as a freshman.
