BURLINGTON, Vt. - Junior
Kendall Kreider scored two second half goals and senior
Rachel Hartman had five saves in a shutout to lead the La Salle field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday. The game was played as part of the Vermont Catamount Classic.
"It was great to get out first win of the season in our opener," head coach Michelle Salmi said. "I think we made some necessary adjustments at halftime and we did a really nice job of moving the ball in the second half and converting on penalty corners."
"Our whole team did a great job today," Kreider said. "We came out with a lot of intensity and did what we needed to do to come out with the win. Our goal is to take that same intensity into tomorrow's game and improve on the things we talked about today."
After a scoreless first half, La Salle (1-0) received a penalty corner in the 43rd minute. Junior
Sophie Lozowski found Krieder, who put one past the Chippewa keeper for a 1-0 La Salle lead.
The duo worked together again with four minutes left in the contest off another penalty corner to give the Explorers some insurance.
Hartman recorded the fourth shutout of her career, which puts her eighth all-time at La Salle.Â
The Blue and Gold held a 17-11 advantage in shots and a 9-2 lead in corners. CMU falls to 0-2 with the loss.Â
The Explorers will play host Vermont on Sunday at noon. The game will be available via a free live stream

"We have to use the momentum going into our game tomorrow versus Vermont and improve and learn on some areas from today," Salmi said. "It's a great confidence booster and start to the season, and as a coaching staff, we are proud of the team's hard fought win today."
