PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team bested Lehigh on Sunday 2-1 in ovetime in its home opener at Hank DeVincent to round out the weekend play.
Lehigh started out with strength, putting the ball in the cage early in the first half at 7:48. Kassidy Green was assisted by Teresa Carotenuto off a corner play to bring the score to 0-1.
La Salle soon answered the Mountain Hawk goal at 16:44 in the first half. Explorers freshman
Amanda Chapin put the team's first goal and her first career goal tally tie up the score.
The Explorers took six shots on goal in the second half, while the Mountain Hawks recorded five shots on goal but neither team was able to net a shot,leaving  the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.
The two teams moved into overtime play, which quickly ended when senior
Devin Muracco found the back of the cage for the Explorers at 70:21. The overtime game-winning goal was Muracco's first of the season and allowed the Explorers to clinch their first win at home.
Goalie
Rachel Hartman posted seven saves against Lehigh, while Mountain Hawk goalie Julia Ward posted nine. Hartman boasts a .804 save percentage for the season.
The Explorers are now 2-3 on the season. La Salle will resume play on Friday when it travels to Lock Haven at 3:00 PM.
