PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Sunday afternoon, 2-0, at SJU to wrap up the first weekend of conference play. The Explorers are now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
 
The Explorers held off the Hawks with four saves from goalkeeper Rachel Hartman in the first half to keep the game tied at 0-0.
 
St. Joe's was scoreless for the first half of play until the Hawks put in a goal at 49:49 off of a rebound shot from Jackalyn Pauling to take the lead in the second half.
 
Minutes later at 51:39, the Hawks found the back of the cage again to secure the lead for the rest of the game. Pepa Serrano sent the ball across the Explorers' circle for Doris Offerhaud to send the ball into the right corner of the cage.
 
The Explorers fought defensively, with Hartman posting eight saves in the second half and 12 total to keep the Hawks from the cage.
 
La Salle will return to action for a midweek matchup against Rider on Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Hank DeVincent.
