PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team fell to Rider, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
The Explorers opened scoring in the first half with a goal from
Kendall Kreider, her fourth of the season. Kreider received a pass across the circle from senior
Abbey Lawrence to send the ball through the left side of the cage. Â La Salle was able to gain the lead in under the first three minutes of play.
La Salle quickly followed up with a second goal at 8:40 minutes into play to widen the lead over the Broncs 2-0.
Devin Muracco sent the ball through the defensive circle to
Jess Hoffman, who quickly hit it past goalkeeper Emily Gilligan to capture the second goal of the game. Hoffman posted her first goal of the season.
Rider answered back with three consecutive goals as the Explorers wavered. Kalyn O'Brien put Rider on the board at 10:49 to bring the Broncs back into contention. A goal at 28:18 into play from Daane Coch, assisted by Tess Coorens, tied the game 2-2.
A third goal in the final five minutes of the first half from Jessica Randazzo allowed the Broncs to secure the lead. The second half went scoreless and Rider finished the match 3-2 over La Salle.
Goalie
Rachel Hartman posted 13 saves against the Wildcats, tallying 11 of the saves in the first half alone.
The Explorers will return to action on Sunday, when they host Davidson at Hank DeVincent Field at 12:00 PM to continue conference competition.
