La Salle Grabs A-10 Win Over Davidson

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team topped Atlantic 10 rival Davidson on Sunday in a 2-1 contest to grab its second conference win this season. The Explorers are now 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Explorers jumped out early, putting a goal on the board in just under a minute of play. A pass from Kendall Kreider to Jess Hoffman on the right hand side of the circle at :50 gave the Explorers an early lead. Hoffman sent the ball from the right hand side of the circle to put the ball between the post and Davidson goalie Bean Rodriquez.

From there, the Explorers stayed in charge of the field, leaving the rest of the half scoreless.

"I think we did a really nice job of coming out strong. Scoring within the first minute of the game really put us up," said head coach Michelle Marks-Salmi. "It really amped up the momentum and forced us to continue generating the attack."

A goal at 51:26 into play from Davidson player Katherine English, assisted by Lauren Gammper, tied up the score at 1-1.

The Explorers were able to put in a second goal at 62:16 to bring the lead into La Salle's favor again. April Stein sent the ball flying across the circle from the left side, where Logan Oh was waiting to tap the ball in to give the Explorers the game-winning goal. Oh scored her first goal of the season to help La Salle claim another Atlantic 10 victory.

Goalie Rachel Hartman posted five saves and averaged a .833 save percentage. Stein earned her second assist of the season with her help to Oh while Kreider grabbed her first assist of the season.

The Explorers will return to the field at Hank DeVincent next Friday, hosting conference rival VCU at 3:30 PM.
