PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team faced Davidson on Friday night to continue Atlantic 10 play. The Explorers fell to the Wildcats in a 2-3 contest. La Salle is now 8-10 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
The Explorers fell quickly in the first set, allowing Davidson to grab an early lead to control the match. La Salle trailed at 12-16 when Davidson went on a five point run to secure the lead. The Wildcats grabbed the first set 14-25.
La Salle gained some momentum in set two, leading Davidson 14-13 until the Wildcats jumped ahead to with a pair of service aces from Elise Edman. Despite a service ace from
Devin Corah to answer the Wildcats, the Explorers dropped the second set in a tight contest of 21-25.
In the third set, the Explorers came back with force, taking the set in a thrilling 28-26 contest. La Salle jumped out early with a five point run at 4-4 to secure the pace of the match.
Jensen Sharrits posted a service ace and Corah posted two kills to give the Explorers the lead. Â La Salle took the team's first set of the match to gain momentum as the teams moved into the fourth set.
La Salle came out early in the fourth set to control the set and top the Wildcats in a 25-14 contest. The Explorers posted a five point run at 20-14 to end the set on a high, with kills from
Bryanna Davis,
Jennifer Edwards and Hayley Belcik.
In the fifth set, the Wildcats returned to the game, leading the set by two before La Salle was able to put a point on the board. The Explorers trailed from 2-4 as the Wildcats increased their lead to take the final set 8-15.
Corah paced the Explorers offensively, posting 15 kills in the match, while Davis followed not far behind with 14 kills.
Catherine Edgington also posted 11 kills and
Ashley Felton posted 10.
Maddie Macht recorded a season-high three service aces and Corah recorded two for the Explorers. Sharrits posted 34 digs for La Salle and
Kathryn Wood recorded 13 digs and 52 assists.
La Salle will continue conference play on Sunday, when the team hosts VCU at 1:00 PM in Tom Gola.
