Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Explorers' Late Comeback Makes Way for Overtime Win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The La Salle men's soccer team (3-1) garnered its third win of the season in dramatic fashion on the road Wednesday afternoon at Saint Peter's (0-3-1). The Explorers trailed for much of the contest but a pair of freshmen brought them back. A goal by Joe Bianco at the 90' mark equalized the game before Billy McCarthy netted the game-winner just over four minutes into overtime to make the final 4-3.

"It was a roller coaster of a game," Head Coach Rob Irvine said after the match. "We were very unhappy with the type of goals we conceded. It would have been easy for the guys to throw in the towel. But credit to our guys. They found a way. Our staff is very proud of the group's response. We will work hard to get better with the details."

All of the game's goals were scored after the half. 12 minutes into the second frame, Johnny Ciarlante scored his first goal of the season to put La Salle on top 1-0. However, the Peacocks had answers. Saint Peter's countered with two goals less then three minutes apart to put them up 2-1. Senior Colman Kennedy scored to tie the game but the Peacocks again countered with a quick goal to make the score 3-2 before La Salle's dramatic comeback.

Matt Robinson, the team's leading goal-scorer on the season, assisted on all four goals.

The Explorers pressured the Peacocks throughout, evidenced by their 21-6 advantage in shots. Saint Peter's goalkeeper made an unprecedented 14 saves to keep the game close.

Irvine's team will return home to face Manhattan at McCarthy Stadium this Saturday. The game is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
