DAVIDSON, N.C. – The La Salle women's basketball team battled to a tightly contested 65-58 win over the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at John Belk Arena.
Amy Griffin had a double-double thanks to 26 points and 11 rebounds, and scored six points in the final minute as part of a 7-2 La Salle run over the final 2:16. Griffin went 4-for-4 from the line during that stretch and broke free on an inbounds play for a fast-break layup with 14 seconds left.
Jasmine Alston assisted the Griffin layup and finished with a game-high 8 assists to pair with a game-high 12 rebounds and seven points.
Micahya Owens netted 11 points, including two huge three-pointers during a run where the Explorers turned a six-point deficit into a five-point lead over the final 3:09 of the 3
rd quarter.
Davidson rallied to retake the lead early in the 4
th quarter and the game was tied 53-53 with 4:09 to play before the Explorers took the lead for good on a
Lisa Mintzer layup with 3:48 remaining.
Ashanti Freeland finished with four points and eight rebounds to help the Explorers hold a 48-44 rebounding advantage in the game.
La Salle returns home for a pair of games next week, beginning with their annual kids game against Massachusetts on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m.
