Women's Swimming and Diving | January 21, 2017
PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle Women's Swimming and Diving team completed an Atlantic 10 tri-meet with Fordham and Richmond on Saturday at Kirk Pool. Prior to the event, the team congratulated its seniors on an impressive tenure at the school.
"It was a great day in and out of the pool," said Head Coach
Jamie Platt. "We celebrated our graduating seniors before teh meet and we had a great group of alumni come back to support the teams. The teams keep setting themselves up for the Atlantic 10 Championships."
In the event, the Explorers fell to Richmond, 210-89, and to Fordham, 199-100, despite some strong performances.
A pair of seniors,
Eva Marie Østerhus and
Kaitlyn Hay, helped the 200 medley relay team and the 400 free relay teams to third place finishes.
Junior
Hannah Elliott placed second in the 500 free, clocking in at 5:10.93. Also on the day, she took third in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.04.Â
Sophomore
Olivia DiStefano took third in the 100 back, touching the wall in 58.67 seconds.
In the 100 breast,
Carrie Horan, a freshman, held strong in third place with a time of 1:09.38. Just behind her was sophomore
Collin Kessinger (1:09.54).Â
Horan's classmate,
Emily Wolbert, placed second in the 200 fly (2:08.52).
In the diving events,
Sydney Szopo finished fifth in both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives.
As the regular season begins to wind down, La Salle will host one more weekend of swimming as Mount St. Mary's visits on Friday, January 27 followed by Rowan the following day. Meanwhile, diving coach
Steve Kuttruff and his team will head to Penn State for the Zone A Diving Invitational over the weekend.
