RICHMOND, Va. - The La Salle University men's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped by VCU in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers suffered through a tough shooting night en route to a 90-52 loss, and fell to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Two free throws from junior
B.J. Johnson brought La Salle to within 19-14 despite the fact that the visitors had hit on just two of their first 10 field goal attempts. From there, the Rams went on a game-altering 28-2 run that spanned both halves to put the Explorers in a hole they could not dig out of.
For the game, La Salle shot a season-low 28.3 percent from the floor and allowed VCU to connect on 56.5 percent of its attempts. Individually, freshman
Saul Phiri had a career-high 11 points while senior
Jordan Price and sophomore
Pookie Powell also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Explorers return home for a Big 5 matchup with Penn on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Tipoff at Tom Gola Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 215-951-1999 or by visiting
