Field Hockey Tops Siena in 4-1 Contest

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- A trio of goals from Mackenzie Karcher led La Salle to a 4-1 nonconference win over Siena on Sunday, Oct. 1. With the win, La Salle improves to 6-4 on the season.

Karcher led off scoring when she netted the ball in the Saints' goal under 10 minutes into the first half to give La Salle a 1-0 advantage. The junior scored her third goal of the season after she took a rebound from a shot by Jess Hoffman past goalkeeper Mary Crumlish.

When Nina Magnotta took a shot midway through the first half that was thwarted by Crumlish, Chloe Lucky was waiting to attack off the rebound to give La Salle their second goal.

The Saints answered late in the first half with a goal, but it was not enough as Karcher netted two additional goals in the second half to walk away with the win.

Karcher fought through traffic in the circle about eight minutes into the second half to score La Salle's third goal and her fourth of the season. The Explorers limited the Saints to just two shots in the time between their third and fourth goal in the lopsided battle.

At the 60 minute mark, Karcher scored off a penalty play to net La Salle's fourth goal. Despite a corner play awarded to the Saints in the remaining 10 minutes, they were unable to fight past La Salle's defense to crawl back.

Emma Provost made two saves in her 70 minutes in goal and faced just six shots in total from the Saints.

La Salle will return to the turf on Thursday, when the team travels to Rider to continue the nonconference schedule. Play begins at 4:00 PM.
