Explorers Defeat George Washington as Robinson Scores Hat Trick, McCarthy Scores Twice in Final Minutes

PHILADELPHIA - Matt Robinson scored La Salle's (5-7-1, 1-3 A-10) first three goals of the game and Pat McCarthy scored the final two in a dramatic win over Atlantic 10 opponent George Washington (5-6-2, 2-2 A-10) on a windy Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

Robinson, who leads the team in goals this season, added on goals five, six, and seven. The speedy forward broke the scoreless tie 37 minutes into the first half on a deflection of a free kick just outside the box. He struck again on a penalty kick to put the Explorers up 2-0.

The Colonials countered with two goals of their own to tie the game just fifteen minutes later in a high-scoring second half.

Robinson scored his third in the game's 81st minute from assists by Hayden Criollo and Sixtus Akinlosotu. Criollo has a goal and three assists in his last six games.

However, George Washington once again had answers. The Colonials scores just a minute later and with eight minutes left, most would think this game was going to overtime.

Enter sophomore Pat McCarthy, who scored twice in the final 1:41 of regulation to put the Explorers on top. McCarthy scored from the top shelf at 88:19 on the assist by Kenny Lassiter. For good measure, he scored again with just two seconds left after playing it off a defender to put the nail in the coffin.

Robinson is now tied for second place in goals scored in the Atlantic 10. He's also alone in second place in points with 17.

Head coach Rob Irvine and the Explorers face the task of opposing UMass on the road on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Minutemen are among the toughest teams in the Atlantic 10.
