PHILADELPHIA- Despite an extended second set that saw a tight battle between the Explorers and the Rams, the La Salle volleyball team fell in 0-3 contest to Fordham on Friday, Oct. 13.
La Salle opened the match on a hot streak, jumping out to a four point lead at 6-10 before the Rams fought back on a pair of service aces. Despite four kills from
Devin Corah, the Rams pushed past La Salle to claim the first set 25-19.
The second set was forced into extended points, to a 29-17 finish in the Ram's favor. It featured four lead changes and 10 tied score reports as the teams battled it out to the bitter finish.
Jensen Sharrits and
Alyssa Cianciulli turned in matching four digs each despite Fordham gaining the 2-0 edge.
Fordham powered through the third set with 14 kills against La Salle's 10 to capture the set in a 25-17 contest to ultimately upend La Salle. With the loss, the Explorers fall to 1-6 on conference play and 10-12 overall.
A duo of
Bryanna Davis and
Madison Kuch paced the Explorers, chipping in nine kills apiece.
Catherine Edgington followed with seven kills in her return to the court.
Defensively,
Reilly Lowe and
Devin Corah posted a block assist, while Lowe added three digs. Sharrits led the team with 11 digs overall, while
Kathryn Wood posted eight and added 31 assists to guide La Salle's attack.Â
The Explorers will return to the court when the team hosts Rhode Island on Sunday, Oct. 15. Opening serve will commence at 1:00 PM in Tom Gola Arena.
