RICHMOND, Va. - The La Salle University field hockey team suffered a 7-0 setback at the hands of VCU in its final Atlantic 10 contest of the season on Sunday afternoon. Senior
Kendall Kreider recorded a team-high three shots for the Explorers, who fell to 8-7 on the year and 3-5 in league play.
The Rams opened the scoring at the 10:57 mark as the A-10's leading scorer Emily McNamara found the back of the cage. McNamara also tallied the second score of the contest with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half off a penalty corner.
VCU extended its lead with three more goals prior to halftime, despite La Salle registering three penalty corners. Kreider took two shots resulting from those opportunities, but missed wide on one and was denied by Rams goalkeeper Chessa Kownurko.
McNamara scored her third goal of the match and her 19th of the season early in the second period, and Svea Sturm closed the scoring for the match with less than a minute remaining.
La Salle has two non-league games remaining to close its season, with the first of those coming on Friday, Oct. 27 against Towson at Hank DeVincent Field.Â
