Explorers Cage Tigers in 4-1 Victory

PHILADELPHIA- A pair of goals in second half play lifted the La Salle field hockey team over Towson in a 4-1 contest on Friday, Oct. 27. The Explorers used four different players to secure the nonconference win in the final weekend of regulation play.

Amber Blackshear opened scoring when she accepted a pass from Logan Oh just shy of nine minutes into the first half. Oh tore down the field on a breakaway, flying past a Towson defender to send the ball over to Blackshear on her left, who then faced the goalie one-on-one. Blackshear sent the ball flying into the right corner of the goal to put La Salle up by one.

The Explorers gave themselves a 2-0 advantage when Rialee Allen trekked through traffic to take a shot on Towson's goal at 26:22 into play. Allen netted her third career goal as the pair of freshman led La Salle through the first half.

Towson scored a goal with five minutes remaining into the first half to begin a comeback, but were shut down when Eileen Dzwill scored again for La Salle after she was awarded a penalty stoke in the second half.

With the 3-1 advantage, Jess Hoffman took another shot that would sail past Tiger's goalkeeper Emilee Woodall at 52:46 into play as the pair of seniors led La Salle through the second half. The Tigers were unable to stage a comeback for La Salle to walk away with the win.

Emma Provost spent 59 minutes in goal, thwarting two attempts from the Tigers. Freshman Emelynn Sneary wrapped up the game with 10 minutes in the net as the Explorers improve to 9-7 on the season.

La Salle will wrap up the season at Georgetown tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 but was moved forward due to impending weather.
