Volleyball Tripped Up at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The La Salle volleyball team fell in a 4-1 conference contest against George Washington on Saturday evening in Washington D.C. The team was topped in set scores of (25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20). 

After stumbling in the first set for a 25-15 outcome, the Explorers jumped out to a 5-1 lead as the Colonial lost their footing in a sequence of errors in set two. GW fought back to even the score at 15-15 despite a pair of kills from Devin Corah and Catherine Edgington.

Corah added another pair of kills as the teams went point-for-point before the Colonials jumped ahead with two kills. GW clung to their lead, despite kills from Madison Kuch and Reilly Lowe to claim the second set in a 25-23 final.

La Salle challenged the Colonials through the third set, going back and forth until the team climbed ahead on a pair of kills from Bryanna Davis and one from Corah. Two more kills from Davis forced the Colonials into a time out as La Salle led 20-16. Kuch finalized the set victory with a kills to capture their first set 25-20.

With the match at 2-1, the Explorers used their momentum to hang with the Colonials until the teams were knotted at 12-12. GW used a five point run to gain control, from which the Explorers never recovered. The Colonials clinched the win in a 25-20 final to capture the match.

Corah led La Salle with 14 kills on the night, while Davis and Kuch chipped in 13 apiece. All three of La Salle's aces on the night came from senior Hannah McGary.
 
Kathryn Wood tallied 41 assists to eclipse 1,000 in a season for the first time in her career. She has tallied 1,017 so far this season.

Jenny Edwards and Alyssa Cianciulli both recorded 15 digs, while Jensen Sharrits totaled 11 as the team combined for 63. Lowe totaled three blocks, with one coming from a solo block. Edgington also posted a solo block and an assist to total two on the match. Davis chipped in two blocks as well. 

With the loss, the Explorers fall to 13-14 on the season, while turning in a 3-8 conference record. The team will play its final three matches of the 2017 campaign at Tom Gola arena, beginning with VCU on Friday, Nov. 3.
