PHILADELPHIA- An action packed 35 minutes of second half play led La Salle to their third straight win in a 3-2 clash with Saint Francis. Three Explorers scored as the team captured its third A-10 win of the season to improve to 8-4 overall.
Saint Francis put themselves on the board first, netting a goal at 22:57 to put the Red Flash up ahead 1-0 at halftime. The Explorers charged into the second half as the team overcame the Red Flash with three straight goals.
Chloe Lucky equalized the score after she tipped in a shot from
Summer Pierson at 44 minutes into play. With the score tied at 1-1, La Salle sent in another shot from
Megan Kida just fifteen minutes later for the Explorers to put themselves up by one.
After
Mackenzie Karcher took the ball into the circle, she sent a long pass beyond Red Flash goalkeeper Elizabeth Dyer to
April Stein. Stein lifted the ball behind Dyer 's back into the right side of the goal to earn La Salle's insurance goal.
With the Explorers up by one with just over three minutes remaining, the two teams battled it out until just thirty seconds remained. The Red Flash were awarded a penalty corner, where Hannah Retherford took a shot to score as the buzzer sounded, but it was too late to catch up to the Explorers.
Emma Provost made five saves in the contest, as the team out shot the Red Flash 16 to 12. Six seniors were honored for the contributions to the La Salle field hockey program in a brief ceremony before the game.Â
With the victory, La Salle improves to 3-2 in conference play. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 13, when they welcome Saint Joseph's for an Atlantic 10 tilt.Â
