PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team fell in the conference final at Tom Gola Arena in four sets to Duquesne. Despite opening the match on a high note with their first set win over Duquesne this season, the Explorers were overcome in scores of (25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20).
La Salle opened hitting a match-best .264, thanks to three straight kills from Catherine Edgington to end the set. The Explorers stumbled in the second set, after a five point run at 15-13 from the Dukes, from which La Salle never recovered. Duquesne used this momentum to power through the final two sets, defeating the Explorers for the second time this season.
Three Explorers posted double-digit kill performances, with Bryanna Davis leading the way with 14 in her career finale. Rookie Samantha Graver matched Davis' kills with 14 of her own, while Edgington chipped in a season-best 14 kills.
Hannah McGary tied to lead the match with three aces, with Jensen Sharrits and Jenny Edwards adding in one apiece of La Salle's five total. In a battle of the setters, who rank first and second in Atlantic 10 statistics for assists per set, Katie Wood tied Dani Suiter for 44 assists on the match.
On the defensive end, a trio of Explorers posted double-digit performances in a balanced effort across the floor. Sharrits led the match with 30, while Edwards posted 14 and Graver registered 14 in a double-double performance on the night.
Reilly Lowe contributed four blocks, with Madison Kuch adding in two, but La Salle's five total blocks were simply outplayed by Duquesne's 13 blocks.
The Explorers will end their season 14-16, a four-game turnaround from last season, while adding four conference wins in a three game improvement from a season ago.
