PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball team (1-3) used a late run to make it a two-possession game in the 4th quarter but Temple (4-1) proved too much down the stretch as the Explorers dropped a 69-52 decision to the Owls in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center.

Adreana Miller scored a team-high 16 points while Sofilia Ngwafang added 10 points and five rebounds. Amy Griffin had a balanced stat line, going for eight points, six assists and five steals.

The Explorers went on an 8-0 run late in the 3
rd quarter to cut a 44-33 deficit to three points on a Griffin layup with 2:33 left in the quarter. La Salle stayed within striking distance well into the 4
th quarter before the Owls pushed the game out of reach.

Miller hit a layup with 6:09 remaining in regulation that made it a 53-49 game, but the Owls outscored La Salle 16-3 over the duration.

Tanaya Atkinson poured in a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Owls while Emani Mayo added 10 points and six boards. Mia Davis chipped in seven points and a game-high nine rebounds as TU held a 48-28 advantage on the glass.

The Explorers are back in action this weekend following the Thanksgiving holiday in Lehigh's Christmas City Classic. La Salle will play New Hampshire on Saturday at 4:30 PM and either Lehigh or Fairfield on Sunday afternoon depending on Saturday's outcomes.Â
