GENEVA, Ohio - Sophomore
Olivia DiStefano continued her standout season by setting a new La Salle record in the 100 backstroke today at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Her record came during the preliminary races and was officially marked at 54.80 seconds, topping the previous record of 56.15 seconds set by Jessica Carbin in 2009.Â
Through the first 26 events of the championships, the La Salle Women have gathered 115.5 points.
"At the end of our fifth session, we have broken eight school records," said Head Coach
Jamie Platt. "These athletes keep raising the bar and it's been fun watching. One more day to keep it going!"
Later in the day, DiStefano's finals run earned her third place in the event as she clocked in at 55.07 seconds. DiStefano had the top time among all sophomores. She was later part of the 400 medley relay team along withÂ
Eva Marie Østerhus, Carrie Horran, and
Hannah Elliott, who finished the race in 3:53.21.Â
Horan, a freshman, took 14th in the 100 breast with a final time of 1:04.89.  In the 400 IM,Â
Østerhus touched the wall in 4:38.54 to place 14th.Â
In the 3 meter dive,
Sydney Szopo scored 237.95 for ninth place. Teammate Dominique DiRienzio placed 16th with a 201.35.
The A-10's end tomorrow with the men's and women's 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free, 400 free relay, and the men's 3 meter dive. Prelims begin at 10:30 AM while finals events start at 6:30 PM. Live streaming and results will be available through GoExplorers.com.
