NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A record number of 1,759 Atlantic 10 Conference student-athletes were selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognized their excellence in the classroom in the 2016 fall semester, it was announced on Thursday.

La Salle was represented by 120 student-athletes spanning all sports that are sponsored by the league. The women's lacrosse team had 15 honorees, while men's soccer and softball each had 12.

To be listed on the bi-annual Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.

The 1,759 is the highest number of student-athletes that have qualified for the award since 2007 when the lists were regularly compiled. The total surpassed the 1,698 set during the 2016 spring semester.

It marks the third straight semester student-athletes from the league's 14 member institutions have bested the previous high-water mark. The A10 also set a record with average honorees per school at 125.6. Both records are the best single semester numbers of Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade's tenure.
