Philadelphia, PA – Seven La Salle University athletic teams achieved perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR) scores for the 2018-19 cohort, the NCAA announced last week.
The Explorers' men's basketball, men's golf, women's basketball, women's rowing, women's golf, women's soccer, and women's swimming and diving programs all recorded perfect scores.
Since the GSR program began, La Salle has had 150 teams with a perfect score.
Overall, La Salle's Graduation Success Rate for the 2018-2019 cohort was 93%, higher than the NCAA's reported Division 1 rate of 90%.
La Salle's men's sports average of 88% was higher than the NCAA Division 1 men's sports average of 79%, with the women's sports average of 95% sitting higher than the NCAA Division 1 women's sports average of 90%.
GSR was created in 2002 in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students beyond what the federal graduation rate measures. The federal rate counts any student who leaves a school as an academic failure, even if the student enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter schools as transfer students.
The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate measurement of student-athlete success.
