ERIE, Pa. - The Women's Water Polo team (0-3) was narrowly defeated by Washington and Jefferson (1-0) today at Penn State Behrend. They would later fall to Gannon (4-6), 15-3. Undaunted, the team recorded its first win in history, a 7-5 victory over club team Lindenwood.Â
In the win, the Explorers were leading 5-2 going into the 4th quarter when Lindenwood came back to tie the game 5-5, but La Salle stormed right back with a game winning goal by
Kacie Cios followed by an insurance goal from
Jenny Fermaintt making for a 7-5 final.
In game one, the Explorers offense struck first in the first quarter with a
Stephanie Morales goal. The Presidents' offense would catch fire in the second quarter with four unanswered goals to take a three-score advantage into the half.
La Salle countered with a 5-3 second half, but ultimately couldn't climb all the way back. Katelyn Kubo and
Alyssa Pelanca netted second half goals but
Racquel Jimenez led the scoring output with a team-high three goals.
In the second game, Kubo scored two to lead the La Salle offense. Morales added one of her own.
The Explorers will wrap up their four-game weekend on Sunday with host Penn State Behrend at noon.
