CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The La Salle softball team (4-1) went down to the wire in the Green & White Invitational title game against UNC Charlotte (12-4) before the 49ers scored five runs in the 7th to take a 6-1 win on Sunday at Phillips Softball Complex.
The game went scoreless until a Haley Pace solo homer in the 4th put the 49ers in front 1-0. Suzanne Swanicke answered for La Salle with a run-scoring triple in the 6th to tie the game at 1-1.
Charlotte finally got their offense going against La Salle starter Reilly Gearhart (L, 0-1) in the 7th, stringing together four hits and a pair of walks to scratch out five runs. Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the 7th, the Explorers went down in order against Charlotte's Haley Wiseman (W, 8-2).
The Explorers are back in action next weekend in the North Florida Invitational. The Explorers will play five times over three days, beginning with games against Mount St. Mary's and Western Carolina on Friday.
