Men's Basketball Falls in Road Contest at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS – Davell Roby scored a career-high 23 points to lead Saint Louis to a 70-55 win over the La Salle University men's basketball team in Atlantic 10 action on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Pookie Powell had a team-high 17 points for the Explorers (14-14, 8-9 A10), who dropped their third straight game and will finish out the regular season on Saturday, March 4 with a contest against Fordham at Gola Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m., with a ceremony honoring the senior members of the men's basketball team scheduled prior to the start.

Saint Louis jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead before three straight triples, including two from Powell, propelled the Explorers in front, 11-5, at the 14:32 mark.

The game remained close over the next 10 minutes, as the lead never grew larger than four points either way until an 11-2 run over the final 2:54 gave the Billikens a 36-28 lead heading into halftime. Powell led the Explorers with 10 points while Roby reached his season average in the first half with 12.

The second half saw La Salle struggle offensively, shooting 26.7 percent from the field in the stanza. A 16-5 run over an eight minute stretch midway through the period extended the lead to 57-41, and the Billikens held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
