Seven Explorers Score as La Salle Defeats Central Connecticut 12-7

PHILADELPHIA- After a back and forth first half against Central Connecticut State, the La Salle lacrosse team pulled ahead thanks to a balanced effort to top the Blue Devils 12-7 on Friday, March 17 at Sweeney Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's University.

Senior Anna Gordon put up the first goal of the game two minutes into play to get the two teams started on what would become a back and forth stanza. Once the Blue Devil's Cameron Ruberti put up Central Connecticut's first point, Toni Massetti was quick to respond just :25 later to give La Salle the lead once again.

With La Salle leading 2-1, the Blue Devils went on a scoring spree, netting three goals before the Explorers recovered to quickly respond with three consecutive goals of their own.

La Salle led by a tight 6-5 margin at the break, but came out blazing in the second half to secure the lead. Allee Ilgenfritz scored back-to-back goals to start the half, while freshman Hannah Wertz scored her first career goal to put La Salle up by four.

From there, the Explorers cruised to a victory, with Brittany Edwards and Nicole Black netting two more goals to capture the game.

Ilgenfritz led all scoring with four goals on the day, while Massetti followed behind with three of her own. Courtney Woolford also added a goal in the Explorers effort.

Rachel Ceplo led La Salle with four draws, while Gordon and Isabel Caddick each grabbed two draws. Massetti picked up five ground balls to lead the team, while Gordon and Caddick each scooped up four.

Ilgenfritz, Gordon and Woolford also contributed two caused turnovers apiece to add to La Salle's 13 total.

Lynne Frankel and Lucy Loughlin split time in goal, both recording five saves apiece in their respective halves in the net.

La Salle will welcome Iona on Sunday to wrap up the weekend. Draw is slated for 12:30 PM, pushed back  from an original time of 11:00 AM due to weather conditions.
